Eldrick "Tiger" Woods was born on 30 December 1975 in Cypress, California. His father Earl Woods was a Vietnam War veteran and retired US Army lieutenant colonel and his mother, Kultida is of Thai-Chinese origin and hails from Thailand. 'Tiger' was the nickname given by his father's Vietnamese friend. The nickname stuck with him and was known since then as Tiger Woods. Tiger branded himself as Cablinasian, a word he coined for his multi-ethnic origin - Caucasian, Black, American-Indian, and Asian. Tiger Woods has two half-brothers and one half-sister from his father's first marriage with Barbara Woods Gray. They are Earl Jr {born 1955} and Kevin {born 1957} and Royce {born 1958}.
Tiger Woods was initiated into golfing by his father when he was just a year old. By the time he turned two, the child prodigy made an appearance on Mike Douglas Show in 1978 putting against comedian Bob Hope in a putting contest and again appeared on a television show, "That's Incredible" and got covered in Gold Digest magazine.
