Tiger leaped on to the golf course in a majestical style as a child prodigy playing golf right from the age 2. When he turned 3 he shot 48 for nine holes. He won six junior championships during 1983 to 1990 and won three straight U.S. Amateur titles in 1994, 1995, and 1996. In 1996 Tiger turned professional and with him the game of golf had acquired a charismatic appeal. In that very year, Tiger displaying his grand style of play left an indelible mark of genius on the game that has eventually won him 1996's "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated for the impact he had on the game of golf; and PGA Rookie of the Year by the PGA Tour.
The following year, 1997 saw Tiger becoming the youngest winner of the The Masters tournament, his first major win, setting a record for the largest margin of victory - an astounding 12 strokes - ever at the event.
Then came 1999 his biggest year that has gradually pushed him to the top. He ended his 1999 campaign by winning his last four starts and finished the season with eight wins — an amazing feat that had not been achieved in the past 25 years. Continuing his streak of successes Tiger Woods, in the year 2000, became only the second player in the history of golf to win three majors in the same year at the same time after Ben Hogan, who accomplished the feat in 1953.
